£14m Wolves player may be panicking now as Vitor Pereira eyes Jhon Arias transfer - opinion

Wolves are set for a busy few weeks following a slow start to the transfer window.

Wanderers have seen a number of players depart Molineux already this summer, but in terms of incomings it has been very quiet.

Fer Lopez is the only signing so far.

But Liam Keen reported that Wolves are closing in on a couple of transfer deals, in what was an encouraging update.

Wallace Yan is a player Wolves like, and a couple of days ago there were claims of an agreement to sign him from Flamengo, although they were quickly denied.

But another player Wolves are looking at is Jhon Arias.

And one player at Wolves may be a little fearful if the links to the Colombian intensify.

Apparently Wolves like Arias, who dreams of playing in the Premier League.

The star has impressed with Fluminense, and has produced some eye-catching displays at the Club World Cup.

It has been claimed that Wolves may make an opening bid of £13 million for Arias. And one Wolves player who might have a close eye on this situation is Hwang Hee-chan.

Hwang has fallen by the wayside a little at Wolves in recent times.

He again struggled with injury in 2024/25, and was unable to build on the brilliant season he had in 2023/24.

Hwang was limited to just 25 appearances across all competitions, for a total of 868 minutes on the pitch.

As a result, there’s been speculation about Hwang’s future.

It is no secret that he has admirers, and last year Wolves turned a bid down from Marseille.

Worryingly for him, Arias is a player who is very versatile and also hardworking – two things that he is also very much about.

But Arias looks like he could provide more final third threat for Wanderers, having scored 47 goals and made 55 assists in 229 appearances for Fluminense.

Wolves must listen to offers for Hwang

Hwang is a hardworking player, but he has often lacked consistency.

He will have purple patches here and there, but we have rarely seen the South Korean play well for entire seasons.

Even during the 2023/24 campaign, there were still periods – especially in the second half of that campaign – where he just wasn’t impactful.

Wolves should be listening to offers for the 29-year-old this summer.

There likely won’t be any in the region of the £21 million that Marseille offered last year.

But Wolves can still turn a profit on him, after paying £14 million (BBC Sport) for him in 2022.
