Angel Reese Shades Robert Griffin III Over Caitlin Clark Comments

It doesn't matter how many times Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese says she has no animosity toward Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark. Some will still insist that Reese, 23, hates her fellow WNBA All-Star, and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III is apparently among them.

"Lying on this app when everybody know the first and last name of everybody in my circle for clout is nastyyyy work," Reese wrote via X on Thursday, July 10, seemingly referring to a post from Griffin, 35, earlier in the morning.

Griffin took to his page to denounce a racist edit of Reese on the latest NBA 2K cover, but in the process, he insisted that someone in Reese's "inner circle" confirmed she doesn't like the former Iowa Hawkeye.

"This has got to stop," he wrote. "There is no place for racism in this world. Whether you like a player or not. Angel Reese should never be called or depicted as a Monkey."

Griffin added that he has kept quiet recently about Reese after she allegedly "shared a video that aided in my wife, kids, family and friends receiving death threats."

"I never attacked her or her family when I stated and backed up with clear basketball evidence that Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark," he continued. "It's sports. Everybody won't like each other."

"People in Angel's inner circle called me and told me I was right and Angel Reese has grown to hate Caitlin Clark because of the media always asking her about Caitlin and being constantly compared to her," he added.

Reese wasn't the only one to call Griffin out for his comment. Her mother, also named Angel, jumped into the replies to challenge the former Washington quarterback on his alleged phone call.

"Man stop with the ," she wrote. "My daughter's ‘circle' is so small & tight so I'd be interested 2 know who called U Whomever U say ‘called' U is not in her circle 2 speak on her feelings towards a media/fandom made up beef. Just stay on that side bc the doors are closed over here."

The rivalry between Reese and Clark, also 23, began in college when Reese's LSU Tigers defeated Iowa in the 2023 National Championship game. As the game was winding down, Reese made a "you can't see me" hand gesture at Clark and pointed to her ring finger, signifying the championship ring she was about to win.

Talk of a feud carried into the WNBA despite both insisting there's no bad blood between them. Most recently, Reese said on a September 2024 episode of her "Unapologetically Angel" podcast that "there's never been beef" with Clark and that any feud between them has stopped at mere on-court "trash talk."

"I don't believe in her heart that she has hatred towards me and I'm sure she believes that I don't have hatred towards her," she said.
