The recent devastating floods in Texas have left at least 120 dead and even more than that still missing, according to the latest reports.
Relief efforts are ongoing, with longtime Houston Texans star JJ Watt and his wife Kealia, who played six seasons with the NWSL's Houston Dash, chipping in significant funds to help victims and first responders.
This week, the Watts donated $100,000 to Grape Juice restaurant in Kerrville, an area that has been greatly affected by the disaster. At least 96 people have died in Kerr County, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Grape Juice's owners Heidi Kucera and Daric Easton started the GoFundMe, which has raised $150,000 toward meal preparation and delivery.
"If I keep making sandwiches, people can still be fed. If responders are fed, then they can save lives. And that's really the mantra we've just been, just keep making sandwiches," Easton told FOX 26 Houston.
This is not the first time we've seen Watt get involved with charitable endeavors. Back in 2017, he started a foundation for people displaced by Hurricane Harvey, helping to raise more than $41 million through the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.
"As I reflect on the events of Hurricane Harvey one year ago, the memories of destruction and devastation remain, but they are accompanied by memories of hope, selflessness and the beauty of the human spirit," Watt said in a statement at the time. "I was fortunate enough to witness that generosity first hand, as the fundraiser that I started with a simple goal of $200,000 turned into an unbelievable outpouring of support from people all around the globe.
Watt, who is set to be a game analyst for CBS this upcoming NFL season after previously working on the network's pregame show, also publicly called U.S. Coast Guard swimmer Scott Ruskan a "hero" after the New Jersey native helped saved the lives of over 100 people caught in the floodwaters.
