The covers for NBA2K26 have been released. And while Oklahoma City Thunder guard and NBA champion Shai Gilgeous-Alexander seemed like an obvious choice, there were questions about EA Sports’s decision for the “WNBA Edition.”
Angel Reese will grace the cover, leaving many to wonder why it was the Chicago Sky star over Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark.
“NBA 2K26 is celebrating the bold, the confident and the visionaries — and WNBA All-Star Angel Reese carries all that on and off the court," NBA2K general manager Zak Armitage told TMZ. “In her sophomore year in the WNBA, Angel Reese has made waves, created impactful conversations, and inspired the next generation. She’s a storyteller and has helped the WNBA grow its audience.”
Reese is a two-time WNBA All-Star, was recently named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week and became the first player in WNBA history with five straight games with at least 15 rebounds.
The power forward is also never afraid to say what’s on her mind or stick up for her teammates, as showcased during her brief time in the WNBA.
That’s not to say Clark, who has helped grow viewership since her WNBA debut last season, wouldn’t have been a solid choice, either.
Along with Reese, Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony was chosen as the cover athlete for the “Superstar Edition” of the game.
A fourth edition will feature Gilgeous-Alexander, Reese and Anthony on the cover.
