Sky Sports: Everton want to sign 'incredible' star for Moyes as Tfg plot mega spending spree

Everton are eyeing a summer move to sign Middlesbrough sensation Hayden Hackney this summer, according to Sky Sports News.

The Toffees are keen to strengthen their squad this summer as David Moyes is keen to bolster and avoid another relegation battle, with new owners The Friedkin Group looking to splash the cash and make a statement ahead of the club entering the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton have already completed a permanent deal for Charly Alcaraz and striker Thierno Barry from Villarreal, but Moyes wants to add even more quality and depth to his squad in the midfield area.

Hackney, who has been described as 'incredible' and 'on a different planet' for his performances for Middlesbrough in recent seasons, has now emerged as a target for the Toffees.

It's understood that Everton have been keeping a close eye on the 23-year-old's performances and have watched him in person, while making checks with Middlesbrough on how much a potential deal may cost.

But they face competition from several other clubs including the likes of Brentford, Fulham, West Ham United, Crystal Palace and sides in the Bundesliga after Boro failed to earn promotion back to the Premier League once again.

Portuguese giants FC Porto have already tabled a bid earlier in the transfer window that was worth around £19m, which Middlesbrough rejected, and Everton are now considering making an offer of their own.

Veteran midfielder Idrissa Gueye recently signed a new contract with the Blues to end speculation about his future, but he is now beyond his peak years and the club see Hackney as a potential long-term replacement for the defensive midfield position.

Hackney was also part of the England Under-21 squad this summer that successfully defended the European Championship, playing in four of their six matches, and has two years remaining on his contract on Teeside.
