Report: Man Utd make shock U-turn on 'phenomenal' forward, set to return to pre-season camp

Manchester United have made a shock U-turn on the future of forward Alejandro Garnacho, according to ESPN.

The Red Devils were expected to allow the Argentina winger to leave the club during the summer transfer window after a public fall-out with manager Ruben Amorim at the end of the 2024/25 season.

It was understood that Garnacho had been told to find a new club, and it was announced last week that Garnacho was one of a number of players who had expressed a desire to leave Old Trafford this summer and therefore they were told to stay away from the first-team setup as the squad returned to pre-season.

Garnacho, who has been described as "phenomenal", has interest from the likes of Chelsea and Napoli this summer and didn't report to training with the squad on Monday.

However, according to ESPN the Argentina international has now been given permission to return to training with the Red Devils for pre-season despite his uncertain future with the side. Garnacho had been training alone for the summer, but is now set to re-join the setup at Carrington.

Amorim left Garnacho out of the starting lineup for the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in May, and the 21-year-old spoke out publicly in anger at the decision following the game. He was then dropped from the squad entirely for the final Premier League game of the season against Aston Villa.

But Garnacho did feature in the post-season tour of Asia before heading off on holiday, and with no transfer currently on the cards despite interest from several clubs and Man Utd's willingness to move him on, the club have performed a U-turn by bringing him back into the fold.

Whether Amorim and Garnacho's relationship has been repaired or is still rocky remains to be seen, but with a move for Bryan Mbeumo currently stalling and the club struggling to find a new striker to come into the squad, attacking options are limited at Old Trafford and should they be able to clear the air it could be a positive boost for the Reds.
