Not every Manchester United youth player manages to break through at Old Trafford.

Ethan Galbraith was once seen as a midfielder with serious potential but now finds himself set to play for Swansea City.

Axel Tuanzebe, was once tipped to become a dependable first-team squad player, now plays for Burnley following a series of loan spells.

Such journeys are a reminder of how brutal the pathway to the top can be.

Even for those who come through United’s ranks from a young age.

Now, another former United youth player has taken the next step in his career.

Maxi Oyedele was once considered among the most promising midfielders in Manchester United’s academy setup.

The Polish youth international joined the club in 2020 and went on to make 30 appearances for United’s U18 and U21 sides during the 2021/22 campaign.

He netted four goals while largely operating as a central or defensive midfielder.

However, he never made a senior appearance for United’s first team, and in August 2024, he took the decision to depart permanently.

He joined Legia Warsaw in a bid for regular senior football.

Now, just a year on from his move to Poland, Oyedele appears to be on the move again.

According to journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk of meczyki.pl, the 20-year-old midfielder is set to join Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.

The French club are ready trigger a €6 million release clause.

Strasbourg, who are part of the multi-club model owned by BlueCo – the same Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital-led group that owns Chelsea – are expected to finalise the deal soon.

News circulated earlier in July of Warsaw readying to pay the Red Devils 40% of the sell-on clause fee.

Oyedele was left out of Legia Warsaw’s squad for their Europa League qualifier against Aktobe.

Which went on to fuel speculation that a transfer is imminent.

He made 24 appearances and registered one assist for Legia during his time in the Polish capital.

The proceeds from the move are expected to help Legia fund a move for Mileta Rajovic, as per Wlodarczyk.
