Former Arsenal assistant coach Carlos Cuesta, now head coach at Parma, is reportedly keen to sign Gunners midfielder Fabio Vieira for the Serie A side.

Cuesta, who left Arsenal in June 2025 to take his first senior managerial role, worked with Fabio Vieira from 2022 to 2025 under Mikel Arteta.

According to FootItalia and Gazzetta dello Sport, the 29-year-old Spaniard sees the 25-year-old Portuguese star as a key addition to bolster Parma’s attacking options.

Fabio Vieira, who joined Arsenal from Porto in 2022 for £34.2 million, struggled to secure a regular spot, making 49 appearances with three goals and four assists.

After a loan spell at Porto last season, where he scored five goals and provided six assists in 42 games, Vieira returned to Arsenal but remains outside Arteta’s plans, with Martin Odegaard and Ethan Nwaneri preferred in his position. Arsenal are open to a permanent transfer, reportedly seeking €20 million (£17.2 million) with a sell-on clause.

Cuesta, the youngest manager in Europe’s top five leagues, believes Vieira’s versatility as an attacking midfielder or central midfielder in a 4-3-3 system—mirroring Arteta’s tactics—could add creativity to Parma’s squad.

However, Parma’s financial constraints, including Vieira’s £2.7 million annual salary and Arsenal’s valuation, pose challenges. A loan deal is an option, but Arsenal prefer a permanent move to fund their pursuit of targets like Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze.

X posts reflect mixed fan sentiment, with some Arsenal supporters hopeful Cuesta’s interest could facilitate Vieira’s exit, freeing up funds, while others believe a lower fee around €15 million might be accepted.

Cuesta’s familiarity with Fabio Vieira and his tactical vision make this a plausible move, but negotiations are in early stages. If successful, it could mark Cuesta’s first major signing at Parma, offering Vieira a fresh start in Serie A.
