'Extortionate': Transfer journalist has given a positive update for Newcastle United fans as…

· 10 July 2025, 21:00

**Alexander Isak is under contract at Newcastle United until 2028, and as such, there is no rush to renew terms as the Magpies still hold all the power in the transfer market when it comes to their star striker.**

There has been plenty of talk of a move to Arsenal throughout the season, and that has now switched to Liverpool in the off-season, however, the story has always been the same from a Newcastle perspective.

Alexander Isak is not for sale. Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan made that clear to the board after Isak's goal sealed the Carabao Cup win in March, although we're pretty sure that was already the club's stance.

Talk of slapping a value of £150 million has done the rounds for months now, so any prospective buyers should be fully aware that a move for Isak will not only be difficult, but nigh-on impossible.

Ignore the noise - It would take an 'extortionate' bid to get Newcastle to consider Isak sale

David Ornstein has reiterated Newcastle's stance on Alexander Isak

------------------------------------------------------------------

That being said, Newcastle are looking to open contract talks with the Sweden international to offer him improved terms as recognition for all he's done, and those talks are expected to start soon.

Now, The Athletic's David Ornstein has provided a timely update on how Newcastle feel about Alexander Isak when speaking to the [Back Pages Today podcast.](https://open.spotify.com/episode/43u4ky2IXtU3Vb5vYEQr6z?go=1&sp_cid=05c56691e4f5f3de537fe65a2ec63fb6&nd=1&dlsi=a4ed19ac5a5f4310)

> “The sale of Alexander Isak is not on the agenda for Newcastle. They want him to stay.“They would love him to renew his contract. And so many clubs would, I’m sure, like to sign him.“We know of Arsenal’s previous interest, Liverpool. I’m sure if the door was open, they would look to try and walk through it. But Newcastle don’t intend to open the door. And even if they ever could be tempted to, the price would be extortionate.“Talk of sort of 150 million pounds. So let’s see what he wants to do. And when they return to preseason training and what his mindset is at.

> “But for now, he’s definitely there to stay.”

Don't Panic!

------------

Even the figure of £150 million is only expected to get a club to the negotiating table, the actual price it would take for Newcastle to accept a bid is likely to be way higher given how important he is to the club.

The rumours around Isak have been persistent so it's understandable how fans of other clubs are getting their hopes up, and how some of our fans are getting a bit panicky, but the noises from Newcastle have always been the same, and there's been nothing from the player to suggest he's pushing for a move either.

Signing Anthony Elanga will go some way towards settling Isak if he was indeed starting to worry about the lack of signings. We still don't feel there's cause for panic.
