West Ham are now set to rival Nottingham Forest for the signature of Manchester City midfielder James McAtee, according to a report in the Telegraph.
Forest are searching for a new attacking midfielder following the revelation that Morgan Gibbs-White is set to follow Mohammed Kudus to Spurs. The £60m fee Forest will receive for Gibbs-White is expected to be immediately reinvested, and McAtee is reported to be near the top of their list.
The 22-year-old has been on West Ham’s radar for the best part of a year and last week lifted the European Under-21 Championship with England. The Hammers seem to have been linked with half of Lee Carsley’s victorious squad—we’ve got to land at least one of them, surely?

A board source told C&H earlier this week that an attacking midfielder capable of unlocking defences was a key priority for Graham Potter following the sale of Kudus to Tottenham.
On a side note, the way Spurs have conducted their transfer business—quietly landing Gibbs-White while pleading poverty in their pursuit of Kudus—is as impressive as it is infuriating.
The Hammers board need to act quickly—whether it’s McAtee, Omari Hutchinson, Harvey Elliott or anyone else—because right now, West Ham are coming off a very distant second best.
