It is inevitable that some players will need to be offloaded to balance the books. Patrick Bamford is one of the prime candidates due to his wages; he is one of the highest paid players at the club.
Former Leeds man Paul Robinson has said that for the club to build a quality team, some players need to be moved to create space. Robinson believes Bamford should be among the departures:
“If a goalkeeper is brought in, I think Illan Meslier will move on. I think it’s needed for him as well. He needs a fresh start as well as Leeds need a fresh start.
“…Patrick Bamford will be another one.
“People forget about Jack Harrison. He’s come back from Everton but he obviously doesn’t fit with a manager. So I’m surprised that Everton haven’t made that move permanently. Leeds paid £10 million for him. Whether they get the same type of money in return, I’m not sure.”
What happened to Wrexham interest?
Bamford was linked with a move to newly-promoted Championship side Wrexham. The club is owned by American millionaires who are not shy of spending heavily.
A move for Patrick Bamford was rumoured, before a club executive denied the claims on radio.
New striker could seal Patrick Bamford’s fate
With Leeds United in the market for a new center forward, the writing is on the wall for Patrick Bamford. Multiple sources believe that the 31-year old will be happy to sit out for the next 12 months as his contract expires next summer.
Leeds really need to find a way to offload him before the season kicks off.
