The Golden State Warriors have seemingly been ready to move on from Jonathan Kuminga since the moment they were eliminated in the Western Conference Semifinals in the NBA Playoffs. Some might even suggest the writing has been on the wall for Kuminga all season long, considering his minutes dipped from 26.3 MPG in 2024 down to 24.3 this season.
He also went from starting 46 games the previous season down to just 10 this year. In other words, it’s not hard to see Kuminga getting phased out of the top of coach Steve Kerr’s rotation. Now that he’s a restricted free agent, the Warriors are looking to get something in return for their 22-year-old former lottery pick, even if that means executing a sign-and-trade.
While the Warriors are looking to trade Kuminga, according to [Clutch Points’ Brett Siegel](https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/siegels-scoop-latest-intel-jonathan-kuminga-chris-paul-top-remaining-free-agents), Golden State doesn’t want to trade the former No. 7 pick to the Sacramento Kings, who are one of the team’s rivals in the Western Conference.
> “If Kuminga were to be traded, Golden State would prefer not to send him to the Kings, sources said.”

At some point, the Warriors may feel like they don’t have a choice. If the Kings are the only team willing to meet the Warriors’ asking price for Kuminga, then Golden State could feel compelled to just take their rival’s offer anyway.
For now, the Warriors can match any contract offer presented to Kuminga, but they’re hoping a better trade offer comes along instead.
