How Oklahoma State utilized Kenyatta Wright to rebuild the 2025 football roster

Kenyatta Wright knows the Oklahoma State football program well.

Wright started all four years at Oklahoma State and then signed a free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills. He played five seasons in the NFL before retiring.

In the 20 years since he hung up the cleats, Wright was a volunteer coach at his son's high school, he owned a construction company and helped with his wife's boutiques. He's a family man.

Once NIL started to become a thing in college athletics, Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy turned to Wright to serve as the program's director of football business. His first in-person appearance was at Big 12 Media Days last July in Las Vegas.

Gundy, who still takes the title of general manager of Cowboy football, has tasked Wright with all of the off-the-field business. The biggest role Wright plays in the program is roster management and using NIL to make the best roster Oklahoma State can.

"Kenyatta is the only person that knows what he does," Gundy said Wednesday. "Nobody else knows what he does. Nobody else has experience in the NFL with contracts, NFL Players Association. Nobody has the experience with agents, the communication. He is an integral part of this moving forward."
