Rival teams expect Phoenix Suns to compete with one team for future Hall of Famer

Like in recent offseasons, we’ve seen many changes come to the Phoenix Suns this year. Rightfully so, after winning just 36 games and missing the playoffs, the Suns needed to switch things up.

One of the differences includes trading Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets and pursuing a contract buyout with Bradley Beal. Yet, with two players getting removed from the roster, the Suns now have more room for additions too.

According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Suns could be directly competing with the Los Angeles Clippers to sign future first-ballot Hall of Famer Chris Paul in free agency. Paul reportedly wants to play what could potentially be his final season close to his Los Angeles home. That would seemingly make the Suns a proper fit, but it may not be the best one.

“Although both the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers have been mentioned as suitors for Paul this summer, rival teams expect either the Phoenix Suns or Los Angeles Clippers to sign Paul. Money could wind up becoming the ultimate factor in Paul’s decision, as Bradley Beal’s upcoming buyout situation with the Suns must play out first before the future Hall of Fame point guard decides on his next contract.”

Even though he just turned 40 years old in May, it’s no surprise to see Paul still have several suitors in free agency. The 12-time All-Star still averaged a respectable 8.8 points per game to go with 7.4 assists per game while starting all 82 contests for the San Antonio Spurs last season.

Still reportedly eyeing a starting role, we’ll find out soon enough whether CP3 got what he wanted as he enters his 21st season in the NBA.
