Everton manager David Moyes spoke after Barry's announcement and clearly indicated further additions were on the way soon, something Toffees supporters will be glad to hear.
Of course, given the lack of numbers in the squad, no one will be surprised to learn that the Blues are looking to make other signings, as they obviously need to.
As well as improving the striking options, Moyes has been keen to add quality and depth at full-back and in midfield, both in the middle and out wide, during this transfer window.
Idrissa Gueye has committed to at least another year on Merseyside, and Everton have younger players, like James Garner, Tim Iroegbunam, and a teenage Harrison Armstrong, to potentially feature alongside the Senegal veteran.
Clearly, though, at least one more player in the centre of the park would make sense to provide additional quality, competition, and experience as well as further defensive solidity.
This is especially the case because of the departure of Abdoulaye Doucoure. The Mali international is 32 and his best years are behind him, so it was not a great surprise that the club chose not to offer him a new deal.
But his departure leaves the Toffees short of both experience in the middle and specialist defensive cover for Gueye, should the 35-year-old get injured or see his form significantly decline next season.
There are a number of players out there who could fill this gap in the Blues' engine room. Recently, transfer rumours have focused on Everton making a possible move for Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi, and Middlesbrough youngster Hayden Hackett has been mentioned too.
They certainly could well be options, with the Foxes player in particular having a very affordable £9 million release clause in his current contract.
Ndidi would probably represent the best bet to come in and support or very closely replicate Gueye's defensive excellence.
Another possible alternative, though, is Tottenham's Yves Bissouma. He is also a strong player defensively who can provide some welcome additional passing ability, and at 28, is at the peak of his powers.
Spurs' new boss Thomas Frank does not appear to have Bissouma in his plans for next season as he looks to reshape the squad he inherited from Ange Postecoglou.
So, the Malian international would be available for a reported £25 million or so. That makes him a lot more expensive than Ndidi, but he does offer a better all-round game than the Leicester City man.
No one knows for certain exactly how much money Moyes will have to spend this summer, but given the significant gaps in his squad and the need not just for numbers but an upgrade in quality, he will have to manage his resources carefully.
