Trail Blazers add assistant coach

The Portland Trail Blazers have added assistant coach James Posey to coach Chauncey Billups’ staff.

Posey, 48, played 12 years in the NBA, winning championships with the Miami Heat in 2006 and the Boston Celtics in 2008. Posey also won a title as an assistant coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.

Posey spent last season as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns and two seasons prior with the Washington Wizards.

Posey’s longest stint came with Cleveland (2014-19). The Cavaliers, led by forward LeBron James, made four consecutive appearances in the NBA Finals during that period, winning the title in 2016.

As a player, Posey played alongside Billups with the Denver Nuggets, and played with the Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, Heat, Celtics, New Orleans Hornets and Indiana Pacers.

Posey joins a staff that has been revamped with the hiring of Quinton Crawford, Tiago Splitter and Patrick St. Andrews. Plus, Leron Black was elevated from the Rip City Remix to the Blazers as a developmental coach.
