Across the years, Old Trafford has been home to talent from all over the world, with the lure of playing for Manchester United reaching far and wide.
However, the club have had very few stars from across the pond, originating from the USA.
Whilst most fans will remember Tim Howard, United’s iconic goalkeeper between 2003 and 2006, having arrived from New York Red Bulls.
Anther of United’s American alumni is Jonathan Spector, who graduated from the United academy in 2004, however, went on loan the following year to Charlton Athletic, before being sold to West Ham in 2006.

Whilst Giuseppe Rossi represented the Italian national team, the former Red Devil was born in New Jersey, having the ability to play for either national team.
However, it’s another former United star who has now announced their retirement from the game.
Speaking on her RE-CAP Show Podcast, as reported by The Guardian, former Manchester United winger Tobin Heath has announced her retirement from football.
The two-time World Cup winner commented: “I think I had a few more mountains I wanted to climb with football, even though I’m really grateful for the career that I had.”
She continued: “I get the question all the time ’So, are you coming back?’ and kind of like, well, the writing’s on the wall.”

However, this official retirement may not come as too much as a shock considering her last game was back in 2022 for OL Reign.
Unfortunately, after moving from Arsenal to join Reign, Tobin Heath suffered a season-ending knee injury in September 2022, requiring multiple surgeries to repair.
The former U.S. women’s national team star played for United between 2020 and 2021, moving from Portland Thorns after seven years with the club, and then departing to Arsenal for he final full season in the sport.
Heath is one of the most decorated players in the US Soccer program with 181 caps, being named US Soccer Female Athlete of the Year in 2016 and winning the Olympic gold medal twice in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012. Following her Olympic wins, Heath went on to win the Women’s World Cup in Canada in 2015 and in France in 2019.
