Ruben Amorim has taken a liking to Manchester United defensive prospect Reece Munro, and this could suggest he has a role to play in pre-season.
It is no secret that Ruben Amorim places plenty of trust in his youth players, and this should be no different at Manchester United next season.
In his time at Sporting CP, Amorim handed out 27 academy debuts, which is a substantial amount. He is already working towards achieving at Old Trafford.
Last season, Amorim gave three United academy players their debuts, and there are already several others who are looking to join this list over the course of the 2025-26 campaign.
During pre-season training, Amorim has involved a handful of talents, and among them is Reece Munro. Here is everything you need to know about the teenager.

Who is Reece Munro?
Reece Munro is an 18-year-old professional footballer who currently plays for Manchester United. The teenager is a right-footed centre-back who is emerging as a talent on the cusp of a first-team breakthrough.
Munro has come through the academy and last season arrived on the scene as a dominant defender for the U18s, captaining the side on a number of occasions.
Munro’s performances under Adam Lawrence were impressive, earning him a call-up to the first-team squad, which was in Asia in May for the post-season tour.

After impressing with his limited chances here, Munro has earned further chances to impress Amorim.
Reece Munro has been handed a new first-team number
Munro barely put a foot wrong during his appearances against ASEAN All-Stars and Hong Kong, which have resulted in him being involved from day one during pre-season for United.
Amorim’s intention to use the teenager is clear, with Munro being handed an upgraded United squad number, moving from number 79 to 65.
This suggests that he has moved closer to a debut during the 2025-26 campaign, but more importantly, he has caught the eye of Amorim.
Reece Munro handed professional contract
Following an impressive campaign within the academy, United secured the long-term future of the 18-year-old in June.
After the season ended, United handed Munro a professional contract, which will keep him at the club for the next few years at least.
While not earning the fanfare that Godwill Kukonki has done for the club, Munro is certainly becoming a top prospect under Amorim.
Munro style of play
By just looking at Munro, it is obvious that he is a physically dominant defender who made U18 attackers look like kids in comparison.
The 18-year-old is quick and strong, which are excellent foundations for a centre-back, while his height also makes him a significant aerial threat, having scored several goals over his academy career.
Munro would most suit the right-sided centre-back role within Amorim’s system, and in this position, he has the passing and mobility to make himself a very strong wide centre-back.
There are still raw aspects to Munro’s game, and over the coming season, we can imagine Amorim will be preparing him to play a role.
