In a move that might frustrate Brentford, new Tottenham manager Thomas Frank is now looking to bring Yoane Wissa to N17.
Remarkably, Yoane Wissa scored 19 Premier League goals for Brentford last season, explaining why Tottenham are interested.
Wissa was the star of the show for Thomas Frank alongside Bryan Mbeumo, and the west London club would have been braced for strong interest even without losing their manager.
But given that Mbeumo could join Manchester United and that Christian Norgaard has already signed for Arsenal, Brentford might be very hesitant to lose Wissa.
New manager Keith Andrews is already up against it in terms of his experience of managing at this level, and losing the club’s three best players before the season starts would be a seismic blow.
Thomas Frank said it would take a lot of money for Brentford to sell Yoane Wissa
That being said, when speaking back in May, Frank’s comments about Brentford potentially selling Wissa are now interesting to revisit.
As mentioned, Tottenham are in talks to sign Wissa, and when previously asked about the prospect of Brentford selling the 28-year-old, alongside Mbeumo, Frank said it would take ‘a lot of money’.

And with Spurs understandably unwilling to pay over the odds for any of their transfer targets, perhaps their Wissa pursuit might ultimately end in frustration.
Asked if he had anything to say about the futures of Wissa and Mbeumo, Frank replied: “Only that I would like them to stay, I would love for both players to stay at the club.
“We all know that we are a selling club but they are that good, they need to be a very good club with a lot of money to pay for what they get, they’ve got quality both of them.
“Both of them have developed massively, Bryan has been here six years and has definitely done everything he can and just added layers every single season.
“And both of them are performing at a top level.”
Should a striker be the priority for Spurs?
Although Tottenham would benefit from more back up for Dominic Solanke, there are perhaps more pressing concerns in their squad right now.
If Frank plays a similar system at Spurs to the one he often deployed at Brentford, signing a new defensive midfielder will be crucial.
As things stand, Tottenham don’t really have a true defensive number six — Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur are almost hybrid holding midfielders.
And that explains why Tottenham should sign Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich, who would really help spark an immediate improvement in N17.
Frank needs a new striker to support Solanke, but he also needs a defensive midfielder to slot into his eleven immediately.
