The Magpies have landed a player that could take Alexander Isak up to frightening new levels
Anthony Elanga celebrates with teammate Alexander Isak after scoring 5-0 during the International Friendly match between Sweden and Northern Ireland
The arrival of Anthony Elanga could take Alexander Isak up to a scary new level with Newcastle United.
The Sweden international already has 62 goals to his name in total for the black and whites and is still some distance from all-time record scorer Alan Shearer who sits proudly on a record of 206 - one that may never be beaten, or at least any time soon.
Putting aside Elanga's blistering pace, there should be plenty of reason to celebrate his arrival - not least for Isak. Last season alone he weighed in with six Premier League goals and 11 assists.
True his main rival for the right wing spot in Jacob Murphy netted 14 assists and nine goals last season in total. However, at just 23, Elanga has 23 assists and 14 goals to his name in the Premier League already.
Given Elanga's previous understanding with Isak at international level with Sweden there is hope internally that the pair can strike up a telepathic relationship. His arrival has some vibes of Kevin Keegan signing Peter Beardsley in 1993 which took Andy Cole on to incredible heights as the pair conjured up a partnership from heaven.
Keegan turned around to Cole after promotion in 1993 and said: "I'm going to sign a player just for you". Beardsley's arrival in 1993 was celebrated as a homecoming for one of the club's lost stars with Keegan paying £1.5m for the veteran forward.
Looking back on his partnership with Beardsley, Cole said: "I learned so much off him at Newcastle, the way he played, gaining space by standing still, and he made my game so easy.
"All he wanted for me was to go to the next level, because he believed I could become a star. Fantastic."
In the 1993/94 campaign, they scored 55 goals between them with assists galore thrown in, Cole scoring 34 and Beardsley scoring 21 as Newcastle finished the campaign in third spot. The mind boggles at what Isak and Elanga can do together next season.
