A New Chapter for Diogo Dalot at Old Trafford
Diogo Dalot, Manchester Utd full-back, will wear the famous No. 2 shirt ahead of this season
Dalot has been in Old Trafford since 2018 and now step into the history of wearing the iconic No. 2 shirt. Victor Lindelof was the latest to wear this number at United. He left this summer after his contract ended. Lindelof was given the No. 2 shirt when he arrived at United in 2017, when he joined the Manchester side from Benfica in a £38m deal.
Now, Dalot gets his turn to represent the club with the No. 2 on his back ahead of a new season. This is a number forever linked with Man Utd’s former captain and legend, Gary Neville.
Following a Legend
Gary Neville wore that shirt through his whole Man Utd career. He played all of his 600 United games in that number. He won eight PL trophies, four FA Cups, two UCL medals and three League Cups as No. 2. This is a shirt that represents serious history and responsibility for the Red Devils. Now, Dalot has the opportunity to create his own legacy with it at the Theatre of Dreams.
Interestingly, former Man Utd head coach Jose Mourinho once tipped that Dalot will become the next Gary Neville at the Old Trafford. Other notable players to wear the number include Wes Brown, who wore it once in a Manchester derby in 2008, and Rafael da Silva.
Man United are also making changes elsewhere in the squad. That includes new boy Matheus Cunha being handed Rashford’s No. 10.
