Report: Newcastle United‘s £55m Anthony Elanga money could be used against them as bid is…

Newcastle United are set to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest, and that deal could have transfer ramifications.

The move is set to be announced, with fans awaiting official confirmation that Newcastle United have signed Elanga from Nottingham Forest. The 23-year-old will join for an initial £55million, which could rise to £60million with add-ons.

Elanga is a great signing for Newcastle United, while the deal gives Forest some cash to splash as they target reinforcements of their own. That need for reinforcements has intensified further, with Morgan Gibbs-White set to sign for Spurs in a deal worth £60million.

Newcastle United face competition from Nottingham Forest for Yoane Wissa

These imminent injections of cash and the loss of two key players will result in Forest stepping up their own transfer business, and that could have a further impact on goings on at St James’ Park.

Newcastle are eyeing Yoane Wissa as they search for a new striker, but face competition from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

That is according to the Athletic, who report that Nottingham Forest are once again interested in Wissa and have tabled a bid for the Brentford forward.

The bid, which was worth less than £25million, has been rejected by the Bees.

Forest are a long way away from the 28-year-old’s asking price, with Brentford valuing Wissa at £50million.

Whether that is a fee that Forest or Newcastle United are willing to pay remains to be seen, but there will suddenly be a sense of desperation for incomings at the City Ground amid the imminent exits of Elanga and Gibbs-White.

That could result in them pushing harder to bring in Wissa and potentially force Eddie Howe to miss out.

Nottingham Forest bid for Yoane Wissa in January

This is not the first time that Forest have tried to sign Wissa from Brentford.

The Athletic add that they were willing to pay £25million for him during the January transfer window, but were unable to agree a deal with Brentford.

This time they have offered less, which is somewhat interesting given the reaction from Nottingham Forest fans to Newcastle United’s opening £45million offer for Elanga. That was less than what the Magpies proposed on transfer deadline day in 2024, much to the confusion of the Forest faithful.

As for Brentford, they are right to demand a higher fee for Wissa. He scored 19 Premier League goals last season, with the DR Congo international enjoying the best campaign of his career.
