Sheffield United boss gives transfer hint on Leeds United target – plan is in place

Leeds United scored 95 goals last season on their way to being promoted and winning the league title. Daniel Farke’s system brought the best out of the club’s attacking players.

It was a surprise given how good Leeds played despite the fact that their depth up front was sorely lacking. Brenden Aaronson and Joel Piroe played almost every game last season. Between the duo, they played over 6,000 minutes and played 46 games each.

The depth in the striking department included Patrick Bamford, who barely played this past season, and Mateo Joseph, who Daniel Farke did not trust to play more games. Aaronson played a heavy load and even admitted that it affected his form during the campaign.

QUIZ: Can you name the team Leeds United signed these players from?

Leeds United could sign an attacking midfielder this summer

Last summer, Farke wanted to add a new number 10. He needed a creative spark to help improve the team after failing to win promotion the previous campaign. But the club failed to sign one, so Brenden Aaronson was the sole option.

This summer, multiple reports have indicated that Leeds could sign an attacking midfielder. The options are Aston Villa’s Emi Buendia and Sheffield United’s Gus Hamer.

Leeds are monitoring Hamer this summer, but it looks like Sheffield United are intent on keeping him. New boss Ruben Selles had this to say as the club’s players reported for pre-season:

“What I can say about Gustavo is that he’s trained really hard,” he told The Star.

“He’s come back in a good shape, he’s done everything we’ve wanted him to do and he’s a vital player for us.

“If we can, we need to try and keep him and I think he’s happy where he is. Hopefully he’ll keep playing for us.

“Obviously you can never say never because football is football and sometimes there are things that you cannot control. But if I can choose, and from watching his attitude, I would like to keep him with us, and I think he is happy where he is.”

Hamer is Premier League quality

Hamer ticks a lot of boxes Leeds are targeting this summer. He has quality, has proven it in the top flight and could be signed on a decent fee.

The midfielder would definitely be an upgrade on Brenden Aaronson, and would add a huge creative spark to the attack in the Premier League.
