Even as Anthony Elanga is still yet to be officially confirmed as a Newcastle United player, our pursuit of new attackers doesn’t look like it’s slowing down any time soon.
The Mail’s Craig Hope revealed earlier this week that Brentford’s Yoane Wissa was an option discussed by Newcastle, with the club eager to sign another striker to support Alexander Isak and replace Callum Wilson.
Wissa, in particular, is proving to be a popular option on social media, which is no surprise after 31 league goals in his last two seasons.
However, it seems we are not the only club interested in the Congolese star, as links to Spurs on Wednesday via BBC Sport and Sky Sports have been followed by by news of a lowball bid from Nottingham Forest.
According to [The Athletic’s](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6423688/2025/07/10/yoane-wissa-nottingham-forest-transfer/?source=emp_shared_article) David Ornstein, Brentford have rejected Nottingham Forest’s bid of below £25m for Yoane Wissa, slapping a hefty price tag on the striker in response.
Ornstein reveals that the Bees are demanding £50m for the striker, with their stance likely to be strengthened given they have lost Christian Norgaard to Arsenal and look likely to sell Bryan Mbeumo to Man Utd.
Nuno Santo’s Forest also look set to lose two key players, with Elanga on Tyneside and Morgan Gibbs-White set to join Spurs for £60m, leaving them two key players down in a disastrous blow to their European football ambitions this coming season.
But Brentford and new boss Keith Andrews will be well aware of the money Forest have at their disposal, and will be in no rush to lose another key attacker themselves after also losing Thomas Frank to Spurs.
As much of a boost Anthony Elanga will offer our frontline, we’re still in dire need of a consistent goalscoring option aside from Alexander Isak.
Only Mo Salah scored more non-penalty goals last season than Wissa, but at 28-years-old, a sum of at least £50m is very expensive and almost certainly beyond what we’d pay given his age.
However, if Wissa’s price did come down, there are a few reasons why it could be a deal worth pursuing.
First, it would be denying the likes of Nottingham Forest and Spurs a key target who would be an asset to either in the race for European football next season.
It could also help push for Brentford to charge even more money off Manchester United for Bryan Mbeumo, as there’s surely no way the Bees would happily sell both their top goalscorers in one window.
