Newcastle United have been searching for a right winger for a long time, and are finally getting one in Anthony Elanga.
Since the change of ownership at St James’ Park, Newcastle United have not signed a senior right winger. That is about to change, with Anthony Elanga set to join Newcastle United.
The Magpies are paying an initial £55million for the Sweden international, with Elanga seen as a perfect player for Eddie Howe.
The Newcastle United manager is getting a player who is perfectly suited to his system, as the club’s patience pays off.

Arsenal set to sign a winger of their own as Newcastle United land Anthony Elanga
As Newcastle United get set to sign Elanga, Premier League rivals Arsenal are buying a right winger of their own in Noni Madueke.
The news was broken by Fabrizio Romano on Thursday, with Arsenal agreeing a deal worth £52million to sign the England international from Chelsea.
Romano wrote on X: “Noni Madueke to Arsenal, here we go! Fee agreed in excess of £50m with add-ons included, green light from Chelsea. Madueke already agreed five year deal at Arsenal days ago and he’s now set to complete the move. The winger leaves #CFC to join #AFC.”

Arsenal will have high hopes for Madueke, but his looming move to the Emirates only highlights what a spectacular deal Newcastle United are getting for Elanga.
While the Magpies are spending a little bit more money, they are getting someone who has enjoyed more success in the Premier League and is much better suited to the style of play that Howe implements.
Anthony Elanga vs Noni Madueke in the Premier League:
Appearances Goals Assists
Anthony Elanga 113 14 23
Noni Madueke 67 13 7
Madueke is a maverick who can excite supporters, but Elanga is an out-and-out winger. Elanga is incredibly quick, while he was one of the most productive players in the Premier League last season. Only Mohamed Salah and Jacob Murphy provided more assists.
Both Newcastle United and Arsenal are spending big money on 23-year-old right wingers, and both clubs will be happy with their business. But on the face of it, Elanga to Newcastle feels like the better signing. Howe will certainly think so, as he finally gets set to strengthen his Newcastle United squad.
Newcastle United wanted Noni Madueke in the past
Newcastle United are no strangers to Madueke. He is a player who has been linked with a move to St James’ Park during the Magpies’ search for a winger.
A move to Tyneside did feel possible last summer, with Newcastle showing an interest in Madueke.
It was reported that Howe valued Madueke’s potential, but a switch from Stamford Bridge to St James’ Park was not forthcoming. That may have been down to money, with Chelsea valuing Madueke at around £60million.
Fast forward 12 months and Madueke is moving for a smaller fee, but one that still represents a healthy profit for Chelsea. They spent £29million on him in 2023.
For Arsenal’s sake, they will hope he proves to be value for money.
