All eyes are on Man Utd star's first'real test'of pre-season training, Ruben Amorim needs major hurdle to be cleared– opinion

A first-team Manchester United player has to prove a point to both Red Devils supporters and Ruben Amorim during the Premier League club’s pre-season training.

Ruben Amorim put his men to the test on Monday after the Portuguese coach held his first Manchester United pre-season training session at the Carrington complex.

Not every first-team United player reported at Carrington for the training session, with the Red Devils confirming a return for players over the course of the week.

Amorim had the opportunity in his first pre-season training to mix the United first-team players alongside the talent that is emerging from the United youth academy.

The 40-year-old United manager is looking ahead to the start of the pre-season tour in Europe and the United States as well as the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign.

Amorim made an impression on United players during Monday’s training at Carrington amid the expectations placed on the shoulders of the former Sporting CP boss.

England star Luke Shaw attended Man Utd’s pre-season training under Ruben Amorim at Carrington

Luke Shaw was one of the 15 Manchester United players who initially arrived at the Carrington training complex for pre-season training under Ruben Amorim.

The 29-year-old England international’s run in the 2024-25 campaign at Old Trafford was once again disrupted by injuries, with Luke Shaw limited to only 12 matches.

Shaw featured under United manager Amorim last season and has been able to play in the former Sporting CP boss’ tactical system in the three-man backline.

However, the United defender’s lack of regular first-team football amid his injuries did raise criticism for Shaw over his performances for the Red Devils.

Shaw is under contract with United until 2027 and the Three Lions international has to prove his importance to Amorim for the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

There is no denying Shaw’s ability for United on his day as a left-back, but those ‘days’ are few and far between due to his injury-prone playing career.

The clear-cut point that Luke Shaw has to deliver for both Man Utd fans and Ruben Amorim during pre-season training

Luke Shaw must be able to prove to United fans and Amorim that he can make it out of pre-season training and the tour injury-free ahead of the new campaign.

The United and England left-back made his first appearance last season in November 2024 after he suffered an injury setback in pre-season last summer.

Manchester United’s official website confirmed in August 2024 that Shaw had sustained a calf injury and he was expected to return after the September break.

However, the Three Lions international’s return was then delayed until after the October international break before it was pushed back again to November.

The first hurdle for Shaw is getting out of pre-season training without any minor or major setbacks before trying to secure minutes on the pre-season tour this summer.

All eyes are on the injury-prone Shaw after a disappointing 2024-25 campaign and the United star has a point to prove against the criticism over his unreliability.
