Jordan Henderson’s future has been up in the air for the last year or so.
The former Liverpool captain was looking for a way out of Ajax during the January transfer window, but in the end, he ended up staying in the Netherlands.
However, as his contract with the Dutch giants was mutually terminated at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, he had another decision to make.
At 35 years old, this is likely to be Henderson’s last chance at proving his worth, especially with the 2026 World Cup just around the corner.

And now, he’s chosen where the next step of his career will be.
Jordan Henderson is set to join Brentford
As per a report from The Athletic, Henderson is set to join Premier League side Brentford on a free transfer.
The midfielder is set to sign a two-year deal with the Premier League club and will likely fill the void left by Christian Norgaard’s departure.
The Englishman had ‘interest from across Europe’ but in the end, a return to England was seemingly his priority.

Henderson’s medical and paperwork are all set to take place over the weekend, with the former Liverpool captain not wanting to be announced until next week out of respect for Diogo Jota, who has recently passed away.

Brentford have had some massive changes across the board this season.
Thomas Frank has chosen to explore pastures new and try his luck as Tottenham’s manager, while the Bees’ captain, Norgaard, has chosen to make a move to Arsenal.
Brentford were likely looking for some experience to add to their ranks, with the 35-year-old having that in abundance.
And although Henderson has never played for Brentford, it may feel somewhat like home for him as Caoimhin Kelleher, Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg all ply their trade for the club.

Kelleher has only just moved to Brentford from Liverpool this summer after the Reds finally welcomed Giorgi Mamardashvili to their ranks, meaning that he was no longer Arne Slot’s second choice.
As mentioned, this will likely be Henderson’s last chance to prove his worth to Thomas Tuchel ahead of the 2026 World Cup, so every performance will count.
Only time will tell whether this was a smart move from the former Liverpool captain or not, but on paper, it certainly feels like it is.
