Leeds United given new Gus Hamer transfer hope after Sheffield United boss Ruben Selles'…

Expect Leeds United to ramp up their search for attacking reinforcements over the coming weeks as they prepare to embark on their mission to secure Premier League survival.

Defence has been the focus in the opening month of the window, with centre-backs Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw and left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson coming through the door. Lukas Nmecha represents the only attacking addition thus far.

A new No 10 to compete with Brenden Aaronson for a starting spot is on Daniel Farke's summer shopping list. It is not beyond the realms of possibility the Whites could make a move for Sheffield United star Gus Hamer. The Whites saw a £13m bid for the Brazilian-born Dutchman knocked back last summer.

Blades boss Ruben Selles, who replaced Chris Wilder at the helm last month, has previously outlined his desire to retain Hamer's services. But speaking from Sheffield United's warm-weather training camp in Girona this week, Selles suggested the South Yorkshire club could face a battle to keep hold of their star man this summer. Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and Everton have been linked with Hamer in recent weeks.

“What I can say about Gustavo is that he’s trained really hard,” Selles told The Star. “He’s come back in a good shape, he’s done everything we’ve wanted him to do and he’s a vital player for us.

“If we can, we need to try and keep him and I think he’s happy where he is. Hopefully he’ll keep playing for us. He has been outstanding in terms of his character and behaviours, so nothing suggests to me that he will change.

“Obviously you can never say never because football is football and sometimes there are things that you cannot control. But if I can choose, and from watching his attitude, I would like to keep him with us, and I think he is happy where he is.”
