Cousin of Steelers owner rips Steelers’ additions of ‘headcases’ DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey

Patrick Rooney Jr. is not a fan of what the Pittsburgh Steelers have done this offseason. At the top of the list for Rooney are the trades to add DK Metcalf and Jalen Ramsey.

Rooney does not work for the Steelers, but is the first cousin of team president Art Rooney II. He views Ramsey and Metcalf as ‘headcases’ who will negatively affect the team’s culture.

“Ramsey is kind of a headcase,” Rooney said on the PBKC Picks podcast. “And this team is not generally conducive to being able to deal with headcases. AKA, George Pickens, who we just had to get rid of. And you bring in DK Metcalf, who’s a little bit like George Pickens — in terms of being a headcase. And now you got another one in there.”

The Steelers traded Pickens this offseason after things got far too rocky this past year. Metcalf and Ramsey both wanted out of their previous clubs for organizational issues around them.

For Metcalf, he had requested a trade multiple times, Seahawks general manager John Schneider said. This was the first offseason the Seahawks obliged on that request, and the Steelers’ offer was good enough to coax a trade.

As for Ramsey, the Dolphins are amid a cultural reset. According to Dave Hyde of the Sun-Sentinel in Miami, one of the key reasons the Dolphins moved on was because Ramsey was disruptive in the locker room and late to meetings.

Either way, both players seem quite happy with the Steelers now, and under head coach Mike Tomlin, the Steelers hope the talent festers into a positive locker room, too.
