The 18-year-old, who has only five senior appearances to his name, is currently under contract with the Brazilian club until mid 2026. The Premier League side approached the player’s representatives to understand the terms Santos would demand for a potential transfer.

Despite Xavier’s limited exposure at senior level, Forest see potential in the winger and are looking to strike early.

The player’s camp is now assessing the sporting project presented by the English side, while also keeping renewal talks with Santos on the table.

Xavier continues to divide his time between the U20s and the first team, having appeared in three other league matches this year, and was praised for outing by coach Cleber Xavier.

At youth level, Mateus Xavier already won two major titles with Santos, was top scorer of the Brasil Soccer Cup Sub-16, and scored 37 goals in 111 appearances.

Known for his speed, dribbling and finishing, he came through the ranks as a left-winger and signed his first professional deal in September 2023.

Now eligible to move abroad after turning 18 in late June, the next step in his career remains open, and Nottingham Forest are positioning themselves early in the race for one of Santos’ most promising young prospects.
