Even though he has played his last game for Real Madrid, it has still not sunk in that Luka Modric will not wear the famous white anymore.
I mean, at least for me, it has not sunk in. It was heartbreaking to see Real Madrid lose what became Modric's final match in such a horrible manner - a 4-0 loss in a semi-final for a serial winner like Modric is anything but farewell-like.
Now, Modric will wear red. He will play for Milan in Serie A, and there is no doubt that many fans like me will tune into Milan games to see him play every once in a while. More than a month after his announcement about leaving the club, it still does not feel real.
Modric did an interview recently where he talked about the club, and talked about his career, the good and bad moments, and it just felt very nice and reminiscent of his time at the club. He also talked about his favorite moment, and fans can guess it.
It is obvious what Luka Modric's favorite Real Madrid moment was
Modric, when asked about his favorite moment, said: "I always choose La Decima as the favourite moment. Our dynasty started there. 6 Champions League in 10 years. Incredible.
"The way we won, it's what Real Madrid is. Fight until the end, never give up. And we did it. I will never forget the celebrations in Cibeles after La Decima, that was so special for me.
"I always smile when I think about that celebration."
It makes my heart fill up with happiness and sadness at the same time. I mean, Modric is not wrong at all. Real Madrid's dynasty did start there.
If you ask most Real Madrid fans who have been around for long enough, most would also call the Decima as their favorite moment. The same could be said about most of the players who were in the squad at the time.
It was such a special game, and Modric played a huge part in that as well. He has played a huge part in every single one of Real Madrid's Champions League wins, even though in the last one, he was not as involved as he used to be previously.
Even then, he played his role perfectly, and showed what Luka Modric was all about. Class, humility, hard-work and grace. Even though he is almost 40 years old, Real Madrid fans will still miss him dearly as he moves on to the next chapter of his life.
