Arsenal’s transfer window so far, successful or not?

The Arsenal’s previous three seasons have ended with the runners up position, so it is clear to see the Gunners are missing the final piece of the puzzle, making this summers window vital, as we look to eventually get their hands on the Premier League title. The 2024/25 season marks our 22nd consecutive season without getting their hands on the most prized piece of silverware – this simply cannot go on!

The business the club has conducted so far has raised mixed opinions across the fan base. With the marquee signing of the window being Martin Zubamendi at £51 million from Real Sociedad. It has been a common consensus over the past years that the holding position of the Arsenal midfield has been inferior member of the trifecta. Overall, it is a massive change coming with a lot of pressure for the Spanish midfielder, with Martin himself stating, “this is a huge moment in my career. It’s the move I was looking for; one I wanted to make. Of course, it’s a big change, but I’m ready to get started.” Demonstrating, Zubamendi’s knowledge of the clubs ambitions going forward.

The second signing of the window being Christian Norgaard signing for £15 from Brentford. Norgaard is a Premier League tested, hardworking dominant presence in the middle of the park. He brings plenty of aggression and interceptions to break up the play, and he is the player with the most interceptions (201) since he joined the League in the 2021/22 season. Providing, us with depth and experience in that area of the pitch – he is also lethal on set pieces!

The final signing to date, comes in the shape of a goalkeeper with Kepa Arizabalaga joining from Chelsea for a fee of £5 million. A small price to pay for a experienced Premier League keeper such as he is!

In my opinion, these additions are a massive step forward in terms of Arsenal finally getting their hands on that Premier League trophy. They provide plenty of depth and experience to the squad. However, the main issue the Arsenal fans have had during the window would be the lack of a striker, a major contributor to us drawing ten games throughout last season dropping a total of twenty points, clearly highlighting the lack of a natural ‘difference maker’ in the Arsenal squad. However, there have been significant movement in regards to the signing of Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon, which seems encouraging. Other promising transfer rumours include Eze from Crystal Palace, Maduake from Chelsea and Rodrygo from Real Madrid, with Eze and Maduake looking the most likely.

Overall, Arsenal’s summer signings have strengthened key areas, but without a proven striker, the Gunners risk another near-miss, potentially leaving the club and the fans in a continued Premier League drought.
