Everton are competing with Sporting Club de Portugal for Greek right-back Georgios Vagiannidis this summer.
That’s according to Tanea in Greece, who report that Everton have been monitoring Vagiannidis’s development for some time.
According to their information, Everton sent a scout ‘under strict secrecy’ to Greece to watch the full back and assess him. The reports they received from that scout were more than positive.
English interest in the defender has been reported over the last few days but Tanea name Everton as the club who have added him to their transfer list.
They have also taken steps to learn his transfer situation and been told it will take at least €15m to sign him from Panathinaikos this summer.
The Toffees face competition from Sporting Club de Portugal, who had also been looking at the player. They, though, are unwilling to match the €15m after an initial offer of €10m and are looking at other profiles.
There is a belief from the Portuguese side that they can do a deal and not reach that figure, so the transfer game is very much afoot on their part.
Everton’s stance isn’t made clear when it comes to the asking price, but they’ve been watching and could make a move this summer.
