Player believes big Brighton decision paid off – Might have saved career

Former Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Jakub Moder believes he was right to wait to return from his long-term injury, as it proved to be the smartest choice for his career.

[Feyenoord Pings](https://www.feyenoordpings.nl/pechvogel-jakub-moder-blikt-terug-toen-opeens-die-blessure/) cover comments from the midfielder today as he gets his career back on track at Feyenoord.

The 26-year-old joined the Dutch side in a €1.5m deal from Brighton in the January transfer window in an attempt to get his career back on track.

His time with Brighton was ruined by a cruciate ligament tear suffered in April 2022 which saw him spend 576 days out of action, missing 93 games for club and country.

It saw him fall down the pecking order at Brighton and ultimately out of favour, hence his move to the Netherlands earlier this year.

He’s been a big hit at Feyenoord since his arrival, quickly establishing himself as a key player and putting in several impressive performances before the end of the season, particularly in the Champions League.

He is getting his career back on track and admits he was only able to do so because he resisted the decision to return early when at Brighton.

“Before this injury, I’d never had anything serious,” he is quoted as saying.

“Of course, I missed the occasional match, but I’d never had a long-term injury before. I’d always been fit… and then suddenly that knee injury.

“The rehabilitation process was difficult, but I absolutely didn’t want to take any risks. My priority was always to return fully fit so I wouldn’t relapse. Now I’m glad I made that decision because it has helped me come back stronger in the long run.”
