**West Ham** have reportedly received two offers from Mexican clubs for Guido Rodriguez—and despite conflicting reports, the 31-year-old is very much up for sale.
Club sources have consistently confirmed as much to [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/category/news/), and while the Hammers won’t officially disclose the Argentine’s wages, a separate source has informed us that Rodriguez is one of the club’s top earners.
Whichever way you slice it, the [transfer](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-transfer-news/) of Rodriguez has been a disaster. Signed on a free from Real Betis, it quickly became clear the World Cup winner was ill-suited to the pace and intensity of the Premier League.
Yes, Rodriguez has pedigree and quality—but even Julen Lopetegui, the manager who signed him, ended up dropping him from the team.
The signing sums up the scattergun approach that defined last summer’s transfer window. With Lopetegui, Tim Steidten, and David Sullivan all getting their say in recruitment, the result was a bloated squad and mish-mash strategy.
Rodriguez ended up costing the club nearly £2 million in agent fees despite being a “free” transfer—and he’s been taking home around £100k per week for barely playing. It’s just another example of the wasteful spending that has plagued West Ham’s recent transfer business.
Whether things will improve under Graham Potter and Macaulay remains to be seen-after all we’ve yet to sign a player. But with even newly promoted clubs showing ambition in the transfer market, there’s no room for more of the same mistakes this summer.
