The Jacksonville Jaguars have a lot of young talent, on both sides of the ball, and the franchise is hoping the youth movement will lead to a turnaround. Winning just four games last season, Jacksonville wants to quickly return to contender status, and all of their new players are expected to help with that.
While new talent is typically great for the long-term outlook of the team, young players tend to pose a threat to veterans, as there are only so many snaps to go around. While the Jaguars won’t have too many wide open position battles in training camp, there will be at least one rookie, trying to unseat a veteran or two.
Rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten was selected by Jacksonville in the fourth round of the 2025 Draft, and many analysts expect him to be a factor in the Jaguars backfield as a rookie. If that happens, it could be bad news Tank Bigsby.
Bhayshul Tuten could threaten Tank Bigsby for Jaguars RB2 spot
Not long ago, 2023, Bigsby was the young running back challenging starter Travis Etienne. In just his second year last season, Bigsby received 18 more carries than Etienne, and picked up 208 more rushing yards, playing in one more game. However, Etienne was still the starter, and is expected to remain the starter in 2025. That means if Tuten is going to carve out a role for himself, he just first challenge Bigsby for his RB2 spot.
Both guys will have training camp to prove why they should be the guy. While Bigsby may have the experience over Tuten, the Jaguars will have anew offensive system after hiring Liam Coen. That means both guys will have to pick up a new offense, while demonstrating their abilities. With Etienne also entering a contract year, the winner of the RB2 competition could also be establishing their self as the franchise running back of the future.
