Newcastle United seriously considering move for Atletico Madrid player – Tottenham seen as less likely

Newcastle United are seriously considering a move for Atlético de Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher, with Tottenham Hotspur seen as less likely.

That’s [according to Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/atletico-madrid/20250711/1002498333/newcastle-medita-lanzarse-gallagher.html), who say Atlético are willing to listen to offers for the midfielder this summer.

They explain that despite being a regular under Diego Simeone, Gallagher is by no means a permanent fixture and has often played out of position on the left-wing.

The coaching staff and locker room are fans of the Englishman and his first season at the club was seen as a positive, but the club see him as a golden opportunity to cash in and then strengthen other positions.

They want at least €42m for him and know there is interest in the Premier League. Tottenham are one of the suitors, after wanting him last summer before his move to the Wanda Metropolitano. They’re seen as a side on the outside for the time being.

Newcastle, though, are seriously considering a move as they look to bolster their squad for their return to the Champions League.

Eddie Howe wants reliable reinforcements, and the belief is that Gallagher first perfectly into his plans. It is up to their board to take the next step and enter negotiations with Atlético.

Gallager, for his part, is happy in Spain but would accept a move as he wants to go to the World Cup and knows he that will be difficult if he is not an important player under Diego Simeone this season.

Thus, he may be tempted by a move and Newcastle are interested in offering it, with Tottenham in the background for now.
