Fabrizio Romano shares what's really happening with Rodrygo after claims Liverpool could move to sign him

Liverpool have dominated the transfer headlines this season, with the Reds bringing in almost £200million worth of players already.

Arne Slot led his team to the Premier League title last season, and although they were already fairly dominant, with the arrival of players such as Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, they’re looking likely to be the team to beat once again.

However, with all this spending, there’s going to have to be some sales for the Merseyside outfit to recoup some of the money they’ve spent.

That is, especially if they want to bolster the last couple of areas within their squad that need strengthening.

Real Madrid are ‘open’ to the sale of Rodrygo this summer

Several attackers have been linked with a Liverpool switch over the last few weeks, with the Reds looking to improve their attacking ranks.

Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez both seem likely to be on their way out of Anfield this summer, with both players making their desire to leave more than known.

And now, as per a new report from Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool may have been given the chance to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid after their stance on the Brazilian’s future was shared.

“Real Madrid will leave the decision to Rodrygo, it’s Rodrygo who has to decide what he wants to do,” he said via his YouTube channel.

“Real Madrid are open, this is the big difference to one year ago, one year ago Real Madrid closed the doors to any club interested in Rodrygo.

“Now Real Madrid are open so it’s Rodrygo who has to decide, who has to talk to his family, his agent and to the club.”

Comparing Rodrygo and Luis Diaz’s statistics from last season

With Diaz being one of Liverpool’s best attackers last season, it’s clear that his replacement is going to have to be as good as him.

The Colombia international is naturally a left-winger, but Slot chose to play him as a striker fairly regularly last season.

Diaz and Cody Gakpo often interchanged with one another, so versatility is going to be key.

And, fortunately for Liverpool, Rodrygo has that in abundance.

The Brazilian has played across the front three throughout his career, and he would likely slot straight into the void left by Diaz’s departure.

Goal contribution-wise, the two are fairly similar, with both players contributing to 25 goals each.

At the moment, the rumours about Rodrygo making a move to Liverpool are purely speculation, but on paper, it doesn’t feel like there’s a better candidate than the 24-year-old at the moment.
