Former Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has paid tribute to Diogo Jota after the forward died in a road traffic accident last week. The 28-year-old was travelling through Spain in the early hours of July 3 ahead of returning to England when he was involved in the fatal collision alongside his brother Andre Silva, 25.

Since the brothers' passing last Thursday, the footballing world has mourned the death of both Jota and Silva. Last weekend, the majority of the Liverpool first-team, including captain Virgil van Dijk and manager Arne Slot, travelled to Gondomar, Portugal, to attend the brothers' funeral.

Meanwhile, at Anfield, thousands of supporters have laid tributes to Jota and Silva outside of the club's Main Stand.

And on Thursday, the Reds continued their tributes to the forward by uploading a compilation of some of the best memories from his five-year spell at the club.

Underneath the video uploaded to the club's social channels, Thiago, who signed for the Reds in the same month as Jota, commented: "He will always take us to victory".

On Friday, it was announced that Liverpool and Preston North End will pay a number of tributes to Jota and Silva ahead of Sunday's pre-season friendly at Deepdale.

Supporters attending the match have been asked to be in their seats by 2.45pm ahead of the 3pm kick-off as a mark of respect to the brothers, with tributes then getting underway at roughly 2.50pm.l
