Former defender Rio Ferdinand believes Arsenal made a mistake by not prioritising West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus over Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.
Ferdinand Doubts Arsenal’s Transfer Priority
Anton Ferdinand has called out Arsenal for missing a great opportunity to sign Mohammed Kudus.
Speaking on the Market Madness podcast, the former Man Utd defender shared his thoughts. He was surprised to see the Gunners chase Chelsea’s Noni Madueke instead of going after Kudus. Tottenham are now close to completing a £55m deal for the West Ham player.
Mikel Arteta and new sporting director Andrea Berta are actively shaping the squad for the new season. Their focus has been on adding attacker to the squad. Meanwhile, the Hammer’s star was available at the time. But, the Gunners kept their eye on Madueke. They are now preparing a £45m bid for the Chelsea man. This comes despite the Blues reportedly wanting a higher fee for their star.
Kudus to Spurs, While Arsenal Chase Madueke
Ferdinand’s stance takes into account that Kudus could have instantly impacted the Emirates. Arsenal are looking to make a proper PL title charge. The defender thinks they are losing out on a player who has already made an immediate impact in the league. So, this could be a mistake on their part as per the former Man Utd star.
Arsenal recently completed a £15m move for Christian Norgaard from Brentford. But, their front line still looks short in terms of firepower. Talks with Chelsea regarding Madueke are ongoing. Although, only personal terms appear to be agreed. However, they are still apart on fee.
Spurs have made their moves and are closing in on Kudus. Arsenal also remain alert to Rodrygo’s situation at Real Madrid. This shows they are open to more attacking power if a top-quality attacker becomes available. But for now, Ferdinand believes the Gunners missed on a star who could have changed their frontline.
