Manchester United have handed young defender Tyler Fredricson a new shirt number as the club prepare for their first full season under Ruben Amorim.

Fredricson is the latest of a few Red Devils to be assigned new kit numbers with some youngsters being handed their first numbers and some key players mixing things up.

Firstly came the news that Matheus Cunha was being handed Marcus Rashford’s number 10 shirt, with the England international no part of Amorim’s plans going forward.

Next is Diogo Dalot who’s moved from his number 20 to number 2, previously worn by Victor Lindelof until his contract expired at the end of last season.

Then came the young trio of Shea Lacey, Bendito Mantato and Reece Munro being handed the 61, 70 and 65 shirts respectively.

Well today, Tyler Fredricson and Chido Obi have been handed new numbers, representing their place on the fringe of United’s senior squad.

Announcing the change, Manchester United have taken to their official website, commenting: “Manchester United youngsters Tyler Fredricson and Chido Obi will be wearing new shirt numbers, once the action gets back under way.”

The statement continued: “Central defender Fredricson is moving from no.55 to no.33, after making great strides last term.

“The 20-year-old Academy graduate produced a polished Premier League debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers in April and also started in the away game at Brentford.”

With Fredricson and Obi leaving their number 50s shirts behind, upgrading to 33 and 32, it shows their increased likelihood to be included in the senior team this year, especially if United have another year of injury woes like the last two season.
