Idrissa Gana Gueye could sign another contract extension at Everton, the reason is unbelievable …

Everton will be thrilled to have Idrissa Gana Gueye on board once again next season.

The Senegalese was Everton’s player of the season last campaign, as David Moyes will love to have another year with the midfielder.

Moyes said Gueye will be a ‘big part’ in transfers as the Scotsman will rely on the midfielder off the pitch as well.

Now at 35, his career is reaching it’s end, but after last season’s performances, you wouldn’t be surprised if he had another five years left in him.

Well, there is a reason to suggest Gueye would sign another one-year contract extension next season, and it’s quite remarkable.

Idrissa Gana Gueye could sign another Everton extension

Signing Gueye on for another year does feel like a new signing, as Moyes will probably only need one other midfielder to slot in next to him.

That could come in the form of Everton target Hayden Hackney, as the young star could fit nicely alongside the experience of the Senegalese.

Gueye wanted a two-year deal, and, surprisingly, The Friedkin Group didn’t give him one.

The only reason would be Gueye’s excessive £80,000 wage, but the midfielder warrants this amount.

However, despite a two-year deal currently not in the pipeline, the graphic above could suggest that Gueye signs on for another year.

This is due to Gueye being 186 tackles away from surpassing Gareth Barry’s all-time record of most tackles made in Premier League history with 1028, as Gueye sits in 8th on 842.

Most tackles made in Premier League history

1st Gareth Barry – 1,058

2nd Lucas Leiva – 978

3rd Pablo Zabaleta – 953

…8th Gueye – 842

With Barry playing 650 games, the extraordinary factor in this is that Gueye has only played 229, proving why he is one of the greatest at what he does.

The reason he could sign on for another year is the fact that he got 133 last season, so with him needing 186, by replicating this for two more years, he will break the record, and there is no doubt Gueye wants that record.

Gueye will need attacking-minded midfield partner to break record at Everton

With there being a high chance that Gueye could break the record if he signs on for another year next summer, Moyes could help the 35-year-old achieve this feat.

This is due to signing a midfielder who is not defensively-minded like Gueye.

For example, if Everton signed Wilfred Ndidi, this would not be the way to go due to the Nigerian ranking two places behind Gueye on most tackles made in 10th.

Someone like Gustavo Hamer for Everton would be the ideal option for Moyes, as although he does contribute in a defensive aspect, his passing and attacking mind is what makes him shine.

Gueye has the chance to make history, but in doing so, Everton must take him on for another year.
