The Boston Red Sox will not be trading Alex Bregman.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal called the idea “preposterous” in his latest column, after all.
“The Sox are trying to make the playoffs,” Rosenthal wrote. “They are in strong position after winning their seventh straight game Thursday night, one game ahead of the Seattle Mariners for the third wild-card spot, five games behind Toronto in the AL East. Bregman’s expected return from a right quad strain this weekend should only enhance their chances.”
Can we argue against that? Nope.
Rosenthal also mentions how difficult it would be to find appropriate value in a trade, as his status coming off the injured list only muddies the waters on a potential return. The Red Sox would obviously ask for a huge package, but just wouldn’t get one with the opt-outs looming at the end of this season and the possibility that a soft-tissue injury pops up once again this season.

It’s mostly about circumstance with this one, as no two sides would be able to find common ground under them.
Boston’s top priority is making the postseason, and beyond that, trying to keep Bregman. You won’t do that if you trade the guy, so don’t expect to see his name circulating in any serious rumors.
