Arne Slot is still exploring the transfer market for ways to improve his Liverpool squad for the 2025-26 campaign.
The Reds were one of the most dominant teams in the Premier League last season, but without improving their ranks, they’ll likely fall behind their title rivals.
Indeed, Liverpool have already welcomed Florian Wirtz to Anfield for a club-record fee, with Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez also being added to Slot’s first-team squad.
However, even though all of these new players will have helped improve the way that the Reds play, there are still a couple of areas within the team that could do with strengthening, such as their attack.

Several top-quality players have been rumoured to be on Liverpool’s radar this summer, but nothing has yet come to fruition.
Liverpool may end up missing out on Lyon’s Malick Fofana
One of the many attackers that Liverpool have been linked with this summer is Lyon’s Malick Fofana.
The young Belgian had a breakout season in Ligue 1 during the 2024-25 campaign, with his performances attracting attention from across the globe.
And, when Lyon’s relegation to Ligue 2 was announced due to financial issues, some Liverpool fans thought the Reds may try to capitalise on their situation and try to sign him for a cut-rate fee.

However, since Lyon’s relegation has now been rescinded [Le Monde], it feels likely that the French club will stick to Fofana’s initial price tag of £51million.
And, while this may not seem like all that much, the fact that the 2024-25 season was the first one where Fofana properly hit the ground running makes the move rather risky.

The other players Liverpool could look towards instead of Malick Fofana
As mentioned, one of the last areas of Liverpool’s squad that needs upgrading is their attack.
At the moment, they have an abundance of talent available to them, but if both Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz choose to exit this summer, they’ll be left a little bit light up front.
Other players such as Rodrygo, Anthony Gordon and Hugo Ekitike have all been rumoured to be interested in a Liverpool move, but at the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen.
However, if Liverpool want to become dominant in the Premier League and perhaps make a better name for themselves in the Champions League than they did last time around, new faces need to be added to their ranks as soon as possible.
