Chiefs' Xavier Worthy Details Key To Form Surge

Kansas City Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy will be looked at as a big piece of the offensive puzzle for Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes in Year 2.

With his blistering speed, a key feature of his game, Worthy showed last season he's more than just that, with his ability to catch short passes and turn upfield key in his form surge in the second half of the season.

But Xavier didn't get to be the player who posted 40+ receiving yards in seven straight games to finish the regular season and continued it in the playoffs; he had help.

And it came from two stars, who helped his understand the little things about the game.

“I'll probably say like just understanding coverage and leverage and understanding what Pat [Mahomes] likes to do,” Worthy said on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams. “I learned a lot from Trav [Kelce]. Travis is a guy, that him and Pat have great chemistry and they understand where each other's going to be on the field. So, when I understood what coverage it was and understood the game plan and what I need to do on the route, it kind of made it super easy.”

As Worthy enters his second season, he will be joined by Rashee Rice, who is back from a nasty knee injury that ended his 2024 season after just four weeks, and Marquise Brown, who didn't see the field until Week 16 of last year.

Many see Rice, Brown, and Worthy as Mahomes' "big three" weapons, with Kelce doing his thing on underneath routes, which Reid and his coaching staff will hope brings an explosive element to the offense.

There is a feeling that the Chiefs' offense isn't what it used to be, and after a so-so performance last season, as attention turns to 2025, it is clear Mahomes is getting some key weapons back.

And Worthy might just be the one who helps elevate this unit back to being the dominant force it once was... with the help of Mahomes and Kelce.
