Report: Club could soon target 'unstoppable' Liverpool player after sealing lucrative £65m transfer

Federico Chiesa’s Liverpool future has been up in the air for some time now.

The attacker was brought to Anfield for a cut-rate fee last summer after Juventus decided that they no longer wanted him.

Fans thought the deal was going to be the bargain of the summer, but instead, he was hardly given any playing time.

Now, with the 2025-26 summer transfer window underway, Chiesa’s future has once again been spoken about, with a report sharing what it would take for Napoli to come back in for him.

Napoli will need to confirm the sale of Victor Osimhen to re-enter the race for Federico Chiesa

Chiesa is one of two Liverpool players who have been linked with a move to Napoli this summer.

Darwin Nunez is the other, with Napoli’s pursuit of the Uruguayan being held up due to the two clubs not being able to agree upon a price tag for the transfer.

And, while the transfer of Nunez is still expected to go through, Chiesa’s exit options seem to have tanked with the attacker now feeling more likely to stay at Anfield.

However, as per a new report from Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, it seems like Napoli are waiting to sell Victor Osimhen before making another move.

The report outlines that Antonio Conte’s men may ‘return’ to Chiesa should they decide they want a new striker this summer.

Chiesa’s salary would still need ‘adjusting’ but Napoli believe he could be ‘approached’ without the ‘exaggerated terms’ that were previously discussed.

Liverpool should try and keep hold of Federico Chiesa this summer

Although many Liverpool fans may feel like it’s a waste of time to keep Chiesa around, with all the changes rumoured to be occurring in the Reds’ attack this summer, the Italian is the least of their worries.

As mentioned, he was brought in for a minimal fee last summer, and even if he stays at Anfield and doesn’t get played again, it’s unlikely that Liverpool would lose any money on him.

The attacker was once described as ‘unstoppable‘ by Giorgio Chiellini due to his performances, which outlines that there is still a world-class player within him.

If both Luis Diaz and Nunez are sold this summer, the Reds would only have three attackers to choose from, including Chiesa, in the 2025-26 season.

With this in mind, it feels like Chiesa could have an important role to play at Liverpool in the future, that is, if Slot can trust him to play in his starting XI, of course.
