Tottenham hit with Gibbs-White curveball as Forest take legal action over 'illegal' deal

**Tottenham Hotspur have seen their £60 million move for Morgan Gibbs-White held up as Nottingham Forest explore legal action.**

According to [Rob Dorsett](https://x.com/RobDorsettSky/status/1943642457851195787), Forest believe Tottenham took an illegal approach to activating Gibbs-White’s release clause and are exploring every available option to make sure the transfer doesn’t go through.

Understandably, the situation has created tension between both clubs, with Forest considering reporting Tottenham to the Premier League.

Forest are reportedly surprised by how Tottenham became aware of confidential details in Gibbs-White’s contract. They also claim Spurs contacted the player without first seeking permission from Forest.

This dilemma will delay the move, but it might not be enough to upend the transfer entirely.

Gibbs-White has two years left on his contract, and there are no guarantees that he’ll sign a new deal if Forest block a summer exit, so they might be wise to cash in while his stock is high.

[The 25-year-old has a £60m release clause in his contract](https://whiteheartlane.com/tottenham-agree-deal-to-sign-gibbs-white-from-nottingham-forest/). If Spurs activate the clause, Forest would be powerless to stop the move. But they still want the Premier League to look into Tottenham’s conduct.

The England international was expected to undergo a medical with Spurs today, but those plans have now been put on hold.

Gibbs-White joined Forest from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2022 for an initial £25m that could rise to £42m if performance-related add-ons are met.

Since then, he has established himself as the backbone of the team and was the driving force behind Forest’s relentless pursuit of Champions League football last season.

They ultimately had to settle for a spot in the Europa Conference League, but Gibbs-White’s performance hasn’t gone under the radar.

The Forest skipper notched seven goals and 10 assists in 34 Premier League games. He also created 10 big chances and averaged 1.5 key passes per 90 minutes.

Thomas Frank is a big fan of Gibbs-White, and the playmaker would be a massive coup for Spurs as they prepare to return to the Champions League.
