Luis Diaz faces uncertainty as a Liverpool player as Arne Slot's team return for pre-season training. The Reds have been forced to reject interest from European rivals already this summer but speculation around the Colombian's future is continuing.
Diaz, 28, ended the 2024/25 campaign with exactly 50 appearances, in that span scoring 17 goals and recording eight assists, and for his efforts in Slot's successful first season at Anfield collected a Premier League winners' medal. Fans will be hoping for a successful defence of the title next season, but one question left to be answered is whether the winger will be around to help.
Liverpool themselves have made their position extremely clear on the matter whilst chatter about a potential summer move brews over on the continent. Diaz too has also been vocal about his situation.
The ECHO has gathered the latest on Diaz's evolving transfer situation.
Transfer interest brewing
Barcelona have reportedly been admirers of the Colombian international throughout his time on Merseyside. Never before though has it come to a head as it has done so in the summer of 2025, with the La Liga club's sporting director Deco publicly commenting on said interest and his desire to sign an attacking player.
Barca subsequently made an approach at the very start of June and almost exactly one month later so too have German champions Bayern Munich. It has been widely reported that the Barvarian outfit has missed out on several high-profile targets this summer, including Florian Wirtz to Liverpool, which has pointed them in Diaz's direction.
The Reds' answer to both Champions League rivals was Diaz is not for sale.
As well as the two European heavyweights, there has been interest from Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr.
What has Diaz said?
Throughout the summer break, the No.7 himself has actively addressed his situation.
"We don’t know yet," he most recently told Win Sports when asked where his future lies, adding: "Nothing, nothing (to say).
"We’re there talking with the management, we’re calm where I am. So nothing (to say), we’re talking about matters."
Diaz had earlier insisted that he was happy at Liverpool despite the ongoing speculation, though he stopped short of committing his future. Instead, he revealed his representatives had been in discussions with other clubs.
"I'm very happy at Liverpool, I've always said so. They've welcomed me very well from day one.
"We are currently in contact with Liverpool, because we are talking to clubs, and that's normal given the transfer market that's opening. We're trying to arrange what's best for us.
"We’re talking to clubs, it’s normal in the market and we’re looking at what’s best for us.
"I'm waiting to see what happens. If they (Liverpool) give us a good renewal or I stay there for two years, I’ll be happy. Now it’s up to them."
Where Diaz stands with Liverpool
When he arrived from FC Porto in January 2022 for £37m with an additional £12m in add-ons potentially taking the deal to £49m, Diaz signed a five-and-a-half-year contract. This means it is due to expire in 2027, when he would be 30 years of age.
Despite heading into the final two years of this contract, the ECHO understands Liverpool are relaxed about this and no imminent talks are planned to extend the forward's time with the club.
Diaz enjoyed his summer break after the conclusion of Colombia's latest World Cup qualifiers on June 11, providing him with almost one month to rest before reporting back for pre-season training on Tuesday, July 8.
