Manchester United are competing for a free transfer for Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Manchester United face a summer full of unknowns and moves to be defined. The board knows that they need to reinforce key areas if they want to return the club to the English and European elite. The forward line, despite the millions invested, has not made the expected leap in quality. Rasmus Højlund showed moments of sparks, but ended the campaign with doubts and a certain lack of consistency. Joshua Zirkzee, who has been mentioned as a possible departure, does not have enough arguments to sustain himself as the starting nine. In this context, rumours of new signings come as no surprise to anyone at Old Trafford.
According to CaughtOffside, United are among the clubs considering the signing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a free agent following his departure from Everton. The 28-year-old England striker is out of contract with the Toffees and is free to negotiate, attracting interest from a number of clubs inside and outside the Premier League. The interest of the Red Devils seems to be firm, but there is an obstacle, and that is his salary. Sources close to the player’s entourage say that Calvert-Lewin will ask for a salary of around £100,000 a week, a figure that could put the brakes on the deal. However, his experience in the league and the opportunity to strengthen without paying a transfer fee are seducing a part of the board. We reported earlier that the Red Devils have been interested in the striker.
Will he be a good signing for the Red Devils?
Looking at this scenario calmly, it does not seem so easy to justify his arrival as the player who will solve the problems in attack. Højlund has not exploded, but he is young and has room for improvement. Zirkzee, though inconsistent, has market and potential. If both depart or lack confidence, the addition of Calvert-Lewin offers a variant with experience and an imposing physique. However, his injury record at Everton does not go unnoticed. Coupled with his high salary, one wonders if the club will take a risk on a striker who doesn’t always manage more than 10 goals a season.

Manchester United are among the numerous clubs considering a free transfer swoop for former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, CaughtOffside understands.
In his favour is his knowledge of the Premier League and his ability to fight for balls at the top, something United do not exploit too much with their current strikers. On the downside is that his arrival could block development time for young players or affect future signings of a more senior nature. If United are to invest in him, they will have to do so in the knowledge that Dominic is not a revolution, but rather an experienced stopgap. At this stage, for a team in need of a killer who can make a difference, it is not clear that he is the most convincing answer.
