There is no doubt that Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce lost a step in his game during the 2024 NFL season. He did not look the same on the field, especially in the playoffs.

Many thought that Kelce was going to retire after the 2024 season and spend more time with his girlfriend Taylor Swift. Instead, he decided to return for another NFL season and the 2025 season could potentially be his last in the NFL. He is already 35 years old and will turn 36 years old on October 5.

Many different coaches, executives, and scouts across the NFL ranked the tight end position entering the 2025 NFL season. They spoke to ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler. Kelce is ranked as the fifth best tight end in the NFL entering the 2025 season, but there were major signs of him slowing during the 2024 season. One veteran pro personnel evaluator said,
“For sure [he showed] signs of physical decline, but you still have to worry about him because he’s such a smart player with a great connection with the QB. Just doesn’t get open like he used to.”
Kelce caught 97 passes for 823 yards receiving and three touchdowns, along with averaging 8.5 yards per reception. He also had 133 targets as well. There is a chance that the 2024 season was the beginning of the end for Kelce. If he gets off to another slow start again, the Chiefs may have to start finding his replacement.
